A man was arrested on a felony domestic violence charge Monday following an incident that prompted a large police presence near Planet Fitness on Whipple Avenue NW.
According to the Stark County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were initially called at approximately 3:48 p.m. Sept. 14 to 3950 Convenience Circle NW for a reported fight.
Authorities said all parties involved left the scene in a vehicle before deputies arrived. A 28-year-old Canton man was later dropped off elsewhere in Jackson Township before being picked up by another vehicle.
Jackson Township police subsequently stopped that vehicle in the parking lot of Planet Fitness on Whipple Avenue NW, where the man was taken into custody. The arrest accounted for the large law enforcement presence seen in the area Monday afternoon.
The sheriff’s office said its preliminary investigation determined the other people involved had been attempting to break up a domestic incident before leaving the original scene.
No injuries were reported. Authorities said the remaining individuals involved were located, questioned and released.
The man was arrested on outstanding warrants and a third-degree felony charge of domestic violence. Jordan Miller News is withholding his name.
