The Strasburg Police Department said in a social media post made around 1:10 p.m. that the leak was reported on 12th Street NE.
Authorities said nearby businesses were evacuated as a precaution while police and fire crews responded to manage the situation.
12th Street was closed to all traffic Thursday afternoon, and motorists were urged to avoid the area and use alternate routes.
