A Harrison County man has been sentenced to 24 years to life in prison for fatally shooting a New Philadelphia man during a confrontation near his property in 2025.
Mickey Green, 63, of Tippecanoe, was sentenced Tuesday following his Sept. 3 conviction in Harrison County Common Pleas Court. A jury found Green guilty of two counts of murder and one count each of felonious assault and discharging a firearm on or near prohibited premises.
The charges stemmed from the April 5, 2025, shooting death of Steven Andrews, 50, of New Philadelphia.
According to the Ohio Attorney General’s Office, Andrews was driving a tanker truck near the intersection of Norris Road and Moravian Trail Road when Green yelled at him for driving onto the edge of Green’s lawn.
Andrews stopped the truck, got out and walked toward Green. Authorities said Green then pulled out a handgun and shot Andrews in the head. Andrews was unarmed.
Green argued during his three-day trial that he acted in self-defense. The jury rejected that argument and convicted him of murder.
Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost called the shooting a “senseless crime” and thanked law enforcement officers and prosecutors involved in the case.
Green will be required to register as a violent offender if he is eventually released from prison.
The Harrison County Sheriff’s Office investigated the case. It was prosecuted by the Special Prosecutions Section of the Ohio Attorney General’s Office.
