A fire at Katana Buffet & Grill temporarily closed the popular Jackson Township restaurant Monday morning after flames broke out in a utility room before the business opened for the day.
The fire was reported at 10:32 a.m. Monday, July 13, when the restaurant’s fire alarm system was activated by a smoke detector in the utility room, according to Jackson Township Fire Department Public Information Officer Denny Tan.
The restaurant, located at 4758 Everhard Road NW, had not yet opened for business when the fire occurred.
Tan said the fire originated at a water heater in the utility area. The building’s automatic sprinkler system activated and contained the fire before firefighters arrived, preventing it from spreading. Crews extinguished the remaining fire and secured the building’s utilities.
No injuries were reported.
The restaurant will remain closed until further notice while, per orders from the Jackson Township Fire Department and Stark County Health Department.
Mutual aid departments from Plain Township and North Canton were initially requested to assist with the response, Tan said.
Katana Buffet & Grill first opened in June 2013.
