Dangerously low temperatures and subzero wind chills prompted dozens of school districts and private schools across eastern Ohio to cancel classes Wednesday, citing concerns for student safety.
Forecasters warned that morning temperatures would fall into the single digits and below zero, with wind chills well below zero across much of the region. School officials said the extreme cold created unsafe conditions for students waiting at bus stops or walking to school, even where road conditions remained mostly clear.
