A driver was killed Wednesday night when their vehicle crashed and caught fire along state Route 644 in Columbiana County.
The Ohio State Highway Patrol said the crash happened at about 8:41 p.m. Oct. 1 near milepost 3, just south of Lewis Road. A Ford sedan was traveling southbound when it failed to negotiate a curve, went off the right side of the roadway and struck a tree. The car caught fire and became fully engulfed.
The driver was pronounced dead at the scene. Their name has not been released.
The roadway was shut down for about two hours as emergency crews worked the scene. Assisting were the Franklin Township Fire Department, North Star Critical Care, the Columbiana County Coroner’s Office and Baker Towing.
The crash remains under investigation.
