A 43-year-old man was killed Sunday morning in Carroll County and the New Philadelphia Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.

The crash occurred on State Route 39 just east of Mechanicstown just after 5 a.m. Sunday morning.

Troopers were dispatched to the area after Stephen M. Ylonen, 43, of Youngstown, drove a 2019 International Water Truck partially off the right side of the road, back onto the road and left of center, off the left side of the road and struck a ditch and then a cement culvert.

Ylonen was trapped inside of the vehicle and had to be mechanically removed. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Ylonen was not wearing a seatbelt. Drugs and alcohol use is unknown.

The crash remains under investigation.
