Canton police are investigating after a body was discovered Tuesday afternoon along Nimishillen Creek.
Authorities said the body of an unidentified woman or girl was found on the east bank of the Middle Branch near Third Street Southeast and Warner Road Southeast.
A Stark County Coroner’s Office investigator said the identity, age and physical description of the deceased have not yet been determined.
Police were called to the area and were seen gathered near a pedestrian bridge west of STEAMM Academy before clearing the scene shortly before 4:45 p.m.
The body was removed ahead of an incoming storm and will undergo further examination, including an autopsy.
Investigators have not said how long the body may have been at the location or the circumstances surrounding the discovery.
The case remains under investigation.
