Authorities have identified a body discovered earlier this month in New Philadelphia as a Tuscarawas County man.
The New Philadelphia Police Department said officers were called to a fenced lot at 1128 Maple Avenue NW around 5 p.m. Sept. 7, where they located the remains of a man. Due to advanced decomposition, investigators were unable to immediately identify him.
The body was taken to the Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner’s Office for autopsy. Police said the cause and manner of death are still pending, but no foul play is suspected.
Detectives used cell phone data, tattoo comparisons and multiple interviews to narrow down the man’s identity. Dental records later confirmed the deceased as 36-year-old Bryant Sullivan of Dennison.
Family members were notified before police released the information publicly.
The case remains under investigation by the New Philadelphia Police Department and the Tuscarawas County Coroner’s Office, Police Chief Tessa J. Pohovey said.
