The Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a two-vehicle crash that left one man dead Thursday afternoon in Stark County.
The crash occurred at approximately 12:16 p.m. on April 23 along State Route 93 in Lawrence Township, according to a news release from the patrol’s Canton Post.
Authorities said a 2005 GMC Sierra, driven by Shawn D. Simon, 41, of Massillon, was traveling northbound when it went left of center and collided head-on with a southbound 2018 Chevrolet Silverado.
Simon was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the Chevrolet, Terry L. Evans, 70, of Massillon, was transported to Aultman Hospital with injuries described as non-life-threatening. A front-seat passenger in Evans’ vehicle was not injured.
Both vehicles came to rest off the roadway following the crash. The driver of the GMC had to be mechanically extricated from the vehicle, officials said.
Responding agencies included Lawrence Township Fire and EMS, North Lawrence EMS, Canal Fulton Fire Department, Lawrence Township Police Department, and Patriots and Luthis towing.
The crash remains under investigation.
