A 22-year-old Canton woman is facing a felony charge after police say she chased another vehicle and intentionally struck it multiple times before pinning a woman between two cars late Sunday night.
According to a Canton Police Department report, officers were dispatched just before midnight Sunday to the Shorb Drive Thru on Shorb Avenue NW for a report of a fight and a person struck by a vehicle.
When officers arrived, witnesses told them a group had been fighting in the parking lot and that two vehicles left the area heading south on Shorb Avenue NW before crashing into each other.
While searching the area, officers found a group of people waving for help near the intersection of Troy Place NW and Shorb Avenue NW. Police said they discovered a woman sitting on the ground yelling that she could not feel her legs. Witnesses told officers she had just been struck by a vehicle.
Police identified the suspect as Jidayah Brown, 22, who had already been placed in the back of a cruiser after becoming aggressive with officers at the scene.
Investigators say Brown and others had been drinking earlier in the evening when an argument broke out involving a man. The group later went to the Shorb Drive Thru, where the confrontation continued.
According to police, surveillance and witness video showed Brown driving a blue Kia SUV and chasing a black four-door sedan as both vehicles left the parking lot. Officers say the footage shows Brown repeatedly striking the car.
A bystander video reportedly shows the SUV reversing and accelerating into the victim, knocking her to the ground. Police said the victim was then attacked by others at the scene.
According to a criminal complaint filed in the case, Brown knowingly attempted to cause serious physical harm by striking the victim with her vehicle. The complaint alleges she chased the victims’ car, struck it multiple times until it spun out, and then drove into the victim while she was standing between two vehicles, pinning her between them.
Police said Brown had visible injuries, including swelling around her right eye and hair that appeared to have been pulled out. She was taken to Mercy Medical Center for medical clearance before being transported to the Stark County Jail.
Brown is charged with felonious assault, and the case remains under investigation.
