A Norfolk Southern train derailed Tuesday morning in Alliance, but no injuries or hazardous materials were reported, according to company officials.
The derailment occurred shortly before 7 a.m. near the intersection of North Park Avenue and Keystone Street. Norfolk Southern confirmed it involved a single railcar.
Emergency crews were on scene within an hour and began working to secure the area and prepare for cleanup operations.
Norfolk Southern spokespersons said no hazardous materials were involved in the incident.
“Our teams are responding to a one-car derailment in Alliance, Ohio this morning,” the company said in a statement. “We appreciate the community’s patience while we clear the scene safely.”
Railroad officials provided a tentative estimate that the scene could be cleared by about 1 p.m. Tuesday.
Authorities did not immediately release what caused the derailment. Traffic in the surrounding area may be affected as crews continue recovery operations.
No evacuations were ordered, and officials said there is no threat to the public.
