A man in his 60s was found dead Tuesday after a house fire in the 3000 block of Pebble Road in Carroll County, according to Carrollton Fire Chief Shane Thomas.

The fire was reported at 10:27 a.m. after a neighbor called in the blaze. Crews arrived to find the home fully involved, Thomas said. Frigid temperatures — about 8 degrees at the time — caused heavy steam and made visibility difficult as firefighters worked to extinguish the flames.

The home’s lone occupant was later found dead. The body was recovered at about 3:50 p.m. with assistance from Jake Green Excavating, which was called in to help comb through debris, Thomas said.

The victim’s name has not been released as the investigation continues. The Ohio State Fire Marshal’s Office has been called to assist.

Fire crews from Carrollton, Fox Township, Perrysville, Loudon and Dellroy responded to the scene, along with assistance from the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office.
