Canton woman, mother charged with murder in man’s beating death; coroner rules death a homicide

A Canton woman and her mother have been charged with murder in connection to the beating death of a man whose body was found in Akron earlier this summer.

According to the Canton Police Department, detectives were contacted by investigators from the Akron Police Department on Aug. 16 regarding the death of Jerry L. Morris, 54, of Canton, whose body was found in Akron on Aug. 1. Working together, the two agencies determined that the homicide occurred in Canton.

On Oct. 21, members of the U.S. Marshals Task Force arrested Yolanda R. Lowery, 54, and her mother, Dorothy Lowery, 70, at their Canton residence. Both women are charged with murder and were booked into the Stark County Jail.

According to the Summit County Medical Examiner’s Office, Morris was pronounced dead at 7:09 p.m. on Aug. 1. The death certificate lists the cause of death as multiple blunt force injuries and the manner of death as homicide, according to the Summit County medical examiner.
