Minerva man killed in side-by-side crash in Carroll County; victim identified

A 36-year-old Minerva man was killed Wednesday evening when the Polaris RZR he was driving overturned in Augusta Township, according to the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office.

Curtis Jays, 36, of Minerva, was operating the side-by-side in an open field near his residence at 9173 Manor Road NE, Minerva, around 6:56 p.m. when he attempted to make a sharp turn, investigators said. The vehicle rolled, partially ejecting Jays. The roll cage then trapped him.

Deputies said the Polaris came to a stop on its left side. Emergency crews with the Sandy Creek Joint Fire District were first to arrive and confirmed was Jays dead at the scene. The Augusta Township Volunteer Fire Department also responded to the call.

The crash remains under investigation by the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office.
