A 25-year-old man and a 15-year-old have been arrested in connection with the August 17 shooting death of 18-year-old Ja’myrion Hobbs, Mansfield Police Chief Jason Bammann announced Friday morning.

On August 21, at approximately 6:30 p.m., members of the Richland County ASORT Team, the Major Crimes Section of the Mansfield Division of Police, the METRICH Enforcement Unit, and officers from the Mansfield Division of Police executed an arrest warrant at a residence on Maple Street in Mansfield.

Yaounde Hawthorne, 25, was arrested on a charge of murder, a first-degree felony, in connection with Hobbs’ death. The 15-year-old suspect, whose name was not released because of their age, was arrested at a separate location on the same charge.

The arrests follow the fatal shooting of Hobbs, who was found with multiple gunshot wounds between two residences in the 200 block of South Main Street on August 17. He was transported to OhioHealth Mansfield Hospital, where he later died from his injuries.

Chief Bammann credited members of the public for providing crucial information that led to the arrests.

“These arrests were made possible due to valuable tips and information provided by members of our community,” Bammann said. “This case demonstrates the impact that can be achieved when law enforcement and the community work together.”

The investigation remains active, and anyone with additional information is urged to contact Detective Korey Kaufman at 419-755-9748.
