Cleveland Browns cornerback Martin Emerson Jr. will miss the 2025 season after tearing his Achilles during Tuesday’s practice, head coach Kevin Stefanski confirmed Wednesday.

Emerson sustained the noncontact injury while in coverage and underwent additional testing that revealed the severity of the damage. The 23-year-old was expected to be a key starter in the Browns’ secondary this season.

His absence leaves a notable gap in Cleveland’s defensive backfield. Veterans Denzel Ward and Greg Newsome II remain the leading corners, while Cameron Mitchell and Tony Brown II are expected to compete for increased playing time.

Emerson is coming off a productive 2024 season in which he recorded 80 tackles, along with a forced fumble and a fumble recovery.
