A 75-year-old New Philadelphia woman drove her car into a Starbucks on Monday morning after accidentally accelerating forward instead of in reverse, according to Captain Rocky Dusenberry of the New Philadelphia Police Department.
The crash happened around 9:47 a.m. at the Starbucks located at 125 Bluebell Dr SW. Dusenberry said the woman’s vehicle struck the front of the building, causing significant damage and trapping her inside the car due to debris.
Emergency crews arrived quickly and were able to safely free the woman. No injuries were reported.
Because the crash occurred on private property, no citation was issued. However, Dusenberry said the accident report will list the woman as at fault.
The Starbucks will remain closed until further notice. It is unclear whether the drive-thru will reopen before the store resumes normal operations.
An investigation into the crash is ongoing.
