A Canton man was killed early Sunday morning when he was hit by a marked Ohio State Highway Patrol vehicle while walking along Interstate 71 in Medina County, authorities said.
Troopers responded around 4:45 a.m. to reports of a person walking in the northbound lanes of I-71 between State Route 83 and the Interstate 76 interchange in Westfield Township, according to a news release from the Highway Patrol.
Roughly 15 minutes later, 27-year-old Daniel L. Westrich was struck by a state trooper’s cruiser. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
No other injuries were reported. The incident remains under investigation.
