Great Trail’s Rockin’ on the Range promises a great time for all

Contrary to popular opinion, good music and golf do, in fact, go great together. Perhaps Rodney Dangerfield’s Al Czervik said it best when he blasted some Journey on the fairway after exclaiming, “So what? So let’s dance!” in Caddyshack.

Now, no one’s advocating loud music on the links—particularly when your partner is about to tee off—but Minerva’s Great Trail Golf Course has still taken Czervik’s motto to heart with its summertime Rockin’ on the Range event, which takes place the third Friday of each month. That means the next installment is Friday, July 18, from 5 to 10 p.m.

Great Trail describes the atmosphere as family-friendly—and with free admission, it’s wallet-friendly as well. But you’re going to want to bring some funds when you catch the scent of delicious smoked pulled pork sandwiches and savory smoked meatloaf and mashed potato cupcakes that will be served by the golf club’s own Heritage at Great Trail restaurant (the restaurant will still be open for dining from 4 to 9 p.m.). Also, there will be hot dogs and sausage sandwiches available for purchase in the clubhouse, as well as ice cream for those with a sweet tooth.

It goes without saying that a satisfying meal requires a refreshing drink. So, in addition to nonalcoholic choices such as bottled water and soft drinks, there will be adult beverages available, including five craft beers on tap featuring area breweries such as Minerva’s own Sandy Springs, Birdfish (Columbiana), Magic City (Akron), Missing Mountain and HiHO (both Cuyahoga Falls).

You may need a beer, after all, to toast the bragging rights you just earned by winning one of Rockin’ on the Range’s golf contests, such as the long drive, putting or chipping competition. What about children, you may ask? There will be plenty for them to do, such as face painting, not to mention a variety of yard games to play—including the quintessential cornhole.

The event, however, is titled Rockin’ on the Range for a reason, and that is because music takes center stage—or perhaps “center field” would be more apt a phrase. And this time around, attendees will be treated to a local band that’s been going strong for six years now: T-Free & the Panic Attacks. The band, which jokingly refers to itself as “Minerva’s No. 1 Pop Sensation,” is the living embodiment of a good time and will perform from 6 to 9 p.m., playing a varied pop/rock playlist featuring classic tunes predominately from the ’60s and ’70s.

Attendees are encouraged to bring lawn chairs and blankets to enjoy the music. With a forecast calling for clear skies and temps in the 70s, it should be a marvelous evening for good music, good food and good times.

So, you’ve got that going for you, which is nice.

Great Trail Golf Course (330-868-6770) is located at 10154 Great Trail Drive, Minerva, OH 44657.
