A 25-year-old Northwest Ohio man has been arrested in Stark County after authorities allege he engaged in repeated sex acts with his dog over a six-week period earlier this year.

According to a criminal complaint obtained by JMN, Johnathan Wardle Cunningham is accused of having sexual intercourse with his border collie multiple times between Feb. 1 and March 16, 2025. The complaint states the dog suffered physical harm as a result of the alleged abuse.

Cunningham faces two criminal charges: one count of sexual conduct with an animal, a misdemeanor under Ohio law, and one count of prohibitions concerning companion animals, which is a felony offense.

He is scheduled to be arraigned Friday morning in Canton Municipal Court.

The dog has been removed from the home and is currently being cared for by the Stark County Humane Society.

No additional details about how the alleged crimes were discovered have been made public. The case remains under investigation.
