A person was killed early Sunday morning after a fire broke out at a home on 58th Street NE, according to Plain Township Fire & Rescue.
Crews were dispatched around 6 a.m. to the residence at 2511 58th St. NE. Firefighters arrived within minutes to find the house fully engulfed in flames, Fire Chief Charles Shalenberger said.
Initial searches of two first-floor bedrooms did not locate the victim, who was later found deceased in another part of the home.
Roughly a dozen Plain Township firefighters worked to bring the blaze under control by 6:40 a.m. The department remained on scene until 11 a.m. No injuries to firefighters were reported.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation. The Ohio Division of State Fire Marshal has been called in to assist.
The North Canton Fire Department, Stark County Sheriff’s Office, and Stark County Coroner’s Office also responded to the scene.
Damage to the structure and its contents is estimated at approximately $350,000.
