Late Thursday night, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis signed a new bill that will ban most abortions after six weeks in the state.

The governor, who hasn’t officially announced his bid for the 2024 presidential seat, has held a firm stance on abortions. Early in 2023, DeSantis said he would sign an abortion ban if and when it came across his desk.

The Heartbeat Protection Act would ban most abortions at six weeks, with exceptions for rape and incest up to 15 weeks of pregnancy.

DeSantis had previously signed a 15-week abortion ban in 2022 which is currently before the Florida Supreme Court. The six-week ban will not go into effect until the court rules on the 15-week ban.
