Man shot to death in Canton, 22-year-old in custody

A 22-year-old man is facing Murder, Attempted Murder, two counts of Felonious Assault, Tampering with Evidence and Aggravated Burglary stemming from an incident Wednesday morning.

Canton Police officers were dispatched to the 2800 block of Ellis Ave NE for reports of a shooting. When they arrived, they located Michael J. McCrae, 46, of Canton in the basement of the home. The victim was unresponsive, suffering from several gunshot wounds to the torso. McCrae was pronounced dead at the scene by the Stark County Coroner’s Office.

Detectives quickly identified the suspect as Ryan Charles Harmer, 22, of Canton and located him at 4220 Harmont Ave NE. He was arrested by the U.S. Marshal’s Fugitive Task Force and Canton Police K-9 Officers.

The investigation is on going.
