HS Sports Wednesday: Strasburg, Tusky Valley volleyball win at districts; Dover, Hiland boys soccer teams reach finals

Top-seeded Tuscarawas Valley overcame a dropped second set to best the Union Local Jets, 25-17, 24-26, 25-21, 25-22, in the Division III East District semifinals.

Taylor West recorded 11 kills and seven blocks for the Trojans, while Ashley Merrick posted 33 digs and 11 kills. Aubrey Barr also had 34 digs for T.V.

The Trojans, currently ranked fifth in Ohio, improved to 23-2 and will face No. 2 Fort Frye for an East District championship Saturday at 11 a.m. at Cambridge High School.

STRASBURG 25-25-24-25, SHADYSIDE 22-21-26-22

No. 6 Strasburg pulled off an upset win over No. 2 Shadyside in the Division IV East District semifinals at Harrison Central High School.

Maddy Edwards recorded her 1,000th career assist on a night that included 12 digs and 36 assists. Emma Gilkerson posted 17 points and 11 digs for the Tigers.

SHENANDOAH 25-28-25-25, TUSCARAWAS CENTRAL CATHOLIC 20-30-18-12

The top-seeded Zeps outlasted the Tuscarawas Central Catholic Saints in four sets at Buckeye Trail High School.

FORT FRYE 25-25-25, COSHOCTON 11-14-11

No. 2 Fort Frye handled No. 3 Coshocton in straight sets at Meadowbrook High School.

Dover’s boys’ soccer team edged East Liverpool in Wednesday’s Division II District semifinals at Minerva High School.

The second-seeded Crimson Tornadoes will play No. 5 Maysville for the East District title on Saturday at 11 a.m.

HILAND 3, TUSCARAWAS VALLEY 0

Top-seeded Hiland allowed only four shots on goal against the 3rd-seeded Tuscarawas Valley Trojans in a 3-1 Division III District semifinal match at Sandy Valley High School.

Reese Mullet, Caelen Howell, and Corban Miller each scored a goal for the Hawks, who will face off with No. 3 West Muskingum in the District final on Saturday at 11 a.m. at New Philadelphia High School.
