A Minnesota police officer who shot and killed a Black man during a traffic stop Sunday in Minnesota has resigned in addition to the city’s police chief.
Kim Potter, a 26-year veteran and Police Chief Tim Gannon both submitted their resignation just two days after 20-year-old Daunte Wright was shot and killed in Brooklyn Center.
Just a day after the shooting, Gannon said he had reason to believe Potter pulled her gun on accident, with the intent to draw her taser. In body worn camera footage, Potter could be heard shouting ”Taser! Taser!” before pulling shooting Wright.
Wright was allegedly pulled over because he had an air freshener hanging from his mirror. Police were also trying to arrest him due to an outstanding warrant, according to officials.
Many activists are saying that Wright was racially profiled due to a petty offense.
