A Canton man is facing multiple charges after authorities say he led Ohio State Highway Patrol troopers on a pursuit through Canton on Sunday, Oct. 25, striking a patrol cruiser before crashing his vehicle and resisting arrest.

Nico Gadison, 34, of Canton, was arrested following the approximately 30-minute pursuit, which began around 5:35 p.m. on Interstate 77.

According to Lt. Johnnie H. Maier, commander of the Ohio State Highway Patrol’s Canton Post, a trooper attempted to stop a 2013 Chevrolet Impala for a traffic violation near milepost 112.

Gadison allegedly refused to stop and fled southbound on I-77 before traveling through portions of Canton.

During the pursuit, troopers attempted to stop the vehicle using a rolling roadblock. Authorities said Gadison failed to slow down and struck one of the patrol cruisers before continuing to flee.

The pursuit eventually ended when Gadison lost control of the Impala and struck a curb, disabling the vehicle.

Troopers said Gadison refused to comply with officers’ commands and resisted arrest after his vehicle came to a stop.

A Taser was deployed, and Gadison was taken into custody without further incident.

According to the highway patrol, Gadison sustained minor injuries from the Taser deployment and was transported to Aultman Hospital for treatment. He was later released from the hospital and booked into the Stark County Jail.

Gadison faces four charges:

  • Failure to comply with an order or signal of a police officer, a third-degree felony.
  • Resisting arrest, a second-degree misdemeanor.
  • Operating a vehicle while impaired, a first-degree misdemeanor.
  • Driving under suspension, a minor misdemeanor.

The patrol cruiser struck during the pursuit sustained minor damage.

Authorities reported no additional property damage or injuries resulting from the pursuit.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol said the incident lasted approximately 30 minutes before Gadison was taken into custody.
