Halloween safety reminders

With thousands of children expected to participate in Halloween festivities across the region, parents and motorists are encouraged to take extra precautions.

Families should consider carrying flashlights, wearing reflective clothing and using sidewalks whenever possible. Younger children should be accompanied by a responsible adult, and children should be reminded to cross streets at intersections.

Motorists are encouraged to slow down in residential neighborhoods and remain alert for children crossing roadways, particularly during evening hours.

Residents planning to distribute candy are encouraged to leave their porch lights on to indicate they are participating.
