A woman was cited after police say her vehicle crashed into a building in East Canton on Monday evening.
East Canton police responded to the 300 block of Wood Street at approximately 8:10 p.m. Sept. 28 after receiving a report that a vehicle had struck a building.
According to an incident report, officers arrived to find a black Kia Sportage partially inside the building. The vehicle had significant front-end damage and its airbags had deployed. Police said no one else was inside the vehicle.
The driver suffered what police described as a possible busted lip and was evaluated at the scene by Osnaburg Township Fire Department personnel. She declined transportation to a hospital.
Police said the driver appeared nervous and told officers she had a lot of adrenaline following the crash. Officers conducted standardized field sobriety tests, including the horizontal gaze nystagmus, walk-and-turn and one-leg stand tests. According to the report, officers observed no clues of impairment during any of the tests.
The vehicle had Texas registration, and authorities believe the driver had recently moved to the area from Texas.
Police did not detail in the report what caused the vehicle to leave the roadway and strike the building.
The driver was cited for failure to maintain reasonable control and an operator seat belt violation. Police said she acknowledged she was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.
The vehicle was later towed from the scene. Police also confirmed the building owner received the driver’s insurance information regarding damage to the property.
