Two people were killed and two others were seriously injured in a two-vehicle crash Sunday evening in Canton, according to the Canton Fire Department.
Firefighters responded to the 2100 block of Navarre Road SW at approximately 8:24 p.m. Sept. 20, where they found two SUVs with extensive damage.
One of the vehicles had overturned and came to rest on its roof. The driver, who is estimated to be around 40, was ejected from the SUV and pronounced dead at the scene.
The second SUV was carrying three people, all of whom were wearing seat belts. The driver, a 36-year-old woman, was pronounced dead at the scene.
A 12-year-old girl and a 36-year-old man who were passengers in the second SUV were transported to Aultman Hospital with serious injuries.
Witnesses told Jordan Miller News that the crash was so loud they initially believed an explosion had occurred.
One witness also described a vehicle appearing to travel at an extremely high rate of speed, estimating that it may have been traveling well over 100 mph.
That estimate has not been independently verified, and authorities have not confirmed the speed of either vehicle.
The identities of those killed have not yet been released.
The Canton Police Department is investigating the cause of the crash.
