Three people suffered burn injuries Tuesday night after a fire broke out at a Canton home, according to the Canton Fire Department.
Firefighters were dispatched at about 8:23 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 8, to a home in the 2300 block of Bollinger Avenue NE after receiving a report of a residential structure fire. Initial reports indicated the home was occupied.
When crews arrived, they encountered heavy fire extending from the front of the residence.
Witnesses told investigators that an adult woman was blown from the home during the incident. Nearby residents immediately came to her aid and moved her away from the burning structure.
Two neighbors suffered minor burns while helping the woman. Both declined medical treatment at the scene, according to the fire department.
The woman suffered burn injuries and was transported by Canton Fire Department paramedics to Cleveland Clinic Mercy Hospital. She was later transferred to the Akron Children’s Hospital Burn Unit for specialized treatment. Her condition was not released.
Firefighters worked to extinguish the blaze while simultaneously searching the home for anyone else who may have been inside. The fire was largely brought under control within about 30 minutes, and subsequent searches confirmed no additional victims were inside.
No firefighters were injured.
The fire caused an estimated $45,100 in damage to the structure and approximately $9,000 in damage to its contents, according to the department’s incident report.
The cause and origin of the fire remain under investigation.
