A 77-year-old man suffered life-threatening burns after a fire broke out inside a two-story Alliance home Monday morning, according to the Alliance Fire Department.
Firefighters were called to the 1000 block of Federal Avenue at about 8:13 a.m., Assistant Fire Chief Chris Waffler said.
The man was inside the home when the fire broke out. Two women who were walking in the area saw the emergency and pulled him out through the front door before firefighters arrived, Waffler said.
The man suffered second- and third-degree burns to his arms, chest and head. He was taken to Aultman Hospital in Canton with injuries described as life-threatening.
The fire was located in a second-floor bedroom and was quickly extinguished, according to Waffler.
Firefighters from Alliance and Sebring, along with Washington Township volunteer firefighters, responded to the scene. Crews remained at the home for approximately two hours.
The cause of the fire remains undetermined. Waffler said smoking has not been ruled out as a possible cause.
The fire investigation was completed around 12:15 p.m.
