At least one police officer was shot during an officer-involved shooting Sunday night, July 5, in Rittman, as state investigators work to determine exactly what happened.
Authorities have released few official details about the incident. Information gathered by Jordan Miller News indicates at least one officer was struck by gunfire. JMN is working to confirm whether additional officers or anyone else was injured.
Unconfirmed reports indicate the suspect suffered a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Officials have not yet publicly confirmed the suspect’s condition.
Steve Irwin, spokesperson for the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation, confirmed to Jordan Miller News that BCI was called to assist with the investigation. He said no additional information was immediately available.
The Medina County Prosecutor’s Office has also confirmed an officer was injured during the incident. The Ohio Attorney General’s Office said BCI will handle the investigation, which is standard protocol for officer-involved shootings in Ohio.
Officials have not released the circumstances that led to the shooting, the identities of those involved or the extent of the officer’s injuries.
