Authorities are working to determine the circumstances surrounding the death of a 9-month-old child after an incident reported as a drowning Wednesday morning in Columbiana County.
Police were called to a home in the 200 block of Chris Street shortly before 10 a.m., according to Washingtonville Police Chief Ken Faust. When first responders arrived, the infant was unresponsive.
Emergency crews from Perry Township EMS began life-saving measures at the scene, with additional support from Green Township and Columbiana EMS.
The child was taken by ambulance to Salem Regional Medical Center, where he was later pronounced dead, officials said.
Chief Faust said the case remains under investigation.
