Three people were killed Monday afternoon in a shooting outside a Target store in Austin, Texas, police said.

Officers were called to the store at 8601 Research Boulevard in north Austin around 2:15 p.m., Austin Police Chief Lisa Davis said during a news briefing. They arrived within minutes to find three people shot in the parking lot.

Two victims were pronounced dead at the scene, authorities said. A third was taken to a hospital, where they later died. Police said a fourth person sustained injuries unrelated to the shooting.

According to Davis, the suspected gunman fled by hijacking a vehicle, later crashing it before stealing another. He was taken into custody in south Austin after officers used a Taser to subdue him.

The suspect, described as a 32-year-old man with a history of mental health issues, has not been publicly identified.

No details about the victims have been released.
