Search and recovery operations resumed Monday morning for an adult male who went missing Saturday during an incident on the Cuyahoga River. The body of the man’s 5-year-old son was recovered Sunday morning, officials confirmed.

The Cuyahoga Falls Fire Department is leading the search with assistance from multiple agencies across the region. Approximately 50 personnel are involved in the operation, which includes five boats, three drones, two search canines, and side-scan sonar technology.

Boats were deployed from South Summit, Cuyahoga Falls Fire Department, Stow Fire Department, and the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR). Drone support is being provided by Summit Metro Parks, while ODNR also supplied the trained canines.

Search teams are now reaching new areas along the river as water conditions improve, though storm debris continues to pose serious challenges. Officials say all personnel involved are highly trained, with many holding certifications in swift water rescue.

“This is a deeply heartbreaking situation,” said Cuyahoga Falls Mayor Don Walters. “Our hearts are with the family during this incredibly difficult time. Our goal remains to bring their loved one home.”

Fire Chief Chris Martin praised the commitment and professionalism of the responding teams.

“These operations are complex and physically demanding, but our teams are trained and committed to doing everything possible to provide closure to the family,” Martin said.

Authorities said updates will be posted on the city’s official Facebook page as the search continues.
