Stark Co. man killed in hit-and-run Sunday night; authorities searching for suspect

The Stark County Sheriff’s Office is asking for the public’s help in identifying the driver involved in a fatal hit-and-run crash that occurred late Sunday night in Canton Township.

Deputies say 39-year-old Sean Gates was struck by a vehicle in the 1600 block of Shepler Church Avenue SW around 10:40 p.m. on June 15. The vehicle fled the scene, leaving Gates fatally injured. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators believe the suspect vehicle is a white sedan with front-end damage. Photos of the suspected vehicle have been released in hopes of generating leads.
