Two people are dead following a crash Saturday night involving a speeding vehicle on the city’s northwest side, according to Canton Police Chief John Gabbard.
The crash happened around 9:30 p.m. June 7 at the intersection of Wertz Avenue NW and 4th Street NW. Investigators say a Volkswagen Golf was traveling northbound on Wertz at a high rate of speed when it struck a Nissan Altima that was headed southbound and attempting to turn east onto 4th Street.
The driver of the Golf, identified as 41-year-old Christopher Siple Jr. of Canton, was pronounced dead at the scene by the Canton Fire Department.
The driver of the Altima, 28-year-old Dai’sha Wise of Canton, was taken to Aultman Hospital by fire personnel, where she later died from her injuries.
The Canton Metro Crash Team responded to the scene and is investigating the incident.
