The Lake Local Board of Education will hold a special meeting on Saturday, May 24, to officially hire Brett Yeagley as the district’s next superintendent, effective August 1.

Yeagley, who has served as superintendent of Canton Local Schools since 2021, will succeed Kevin Tobin, who announced his retirement earlier this month. Tobin will remain in the role through the end of July.

“We are extremely excited to have Brett join the Blue Streak family,” said Board of Education President Adam Doane. “He has demonstrated a relentless focus on students throughout his career and has delivered an unparalleled emphasis on leadership, communication and accountability. His unique skillset will allow Lake to continue to thrive, while upholding the values that matter most to our community.”

Yeagley brings to Lake Local a leadership philosophy grounded in collaboration, accountability, and student-centered decision-making.

“I am incredibly excited to be joining Lake Local Schools,” Yeagley said. “Lake has a proud tradition of academic excellence, an outstanding arts program, and a history of athletic success. I can’t wait to meet the staff, students, and community members who make Lake such a special place.”

Yeagley also thanked the Canton Local community for their support during his tenure.

“I’m so proud of what our students and staff have accomplished,” he said. “I will always be grateful for the relationships, memories, and shared commitment to doing what’s best for kids.”

The Lake Local Board of Education partnered with the Stark County Educational Service Center and Superintendent Joe Chaddock to conduct the search for Tobin’s replacement.

“I’m honored to follow Kevin Tobin, whose steady leadership and commitment to Lake Local Schools have left a lasting legacy,” Yeagley said.

In addition to his current role, Yeagley serves on the Aultman College Board of Directors. His career in education includes roles as high school principal and middle school principal in the Minerva Local School District, assistant principal at Marlington High School, and earlier, as a social studies teacher and head football coach at Minerva High School.

Yeagley holds a bachelor’s degree in middle childhood education from Malone University, a master’s degree in education from the American College of Education, and completed his superintendent coursework at Concordia University.

Yeagley and his wife, Christy, have one daughter, Callie. Christy Yeagley is a second-grade teacher at Minerva Elementary School and has been named principal of Malvern Elementary School for the upcoming school year.
