A Canton man will serve nine to 13.5 years in prison following a shooting that injured a man and endangered a young child earlier this year.

Markalow T. Richardson, 30, was sentenced by Stark County Common Pleas Judge Natalie R. Haupt after pleading guilty May 19 to attempted murder and two counts of felonious assault. All three charges included firearm specifications.

The charges stem from a Jan. 4 shooting at a gas station on Mahoning Road NE. Authorities said Richardson shot a 37-year-old man multiple times — striking him in the arm, neck, torso, and face.

One of the felonious assault counts was tied to the shooting victim, while the second involved a 4-year-old child who was sitting in the back seat of a vehicle into which Richardson fired.

As part of the sentence, Richardson is also required to register as a violent offender.
