Police: Third grader brings loaded gun to Stark Co. elementary; makes threats towards student, officer

A third-grade student was found with a loaded .45-caliber handgun in his backpack Friday afternoon at Sauder Elementary School, according to Jackson Township Police.

Officers responded to the school, located at 7503 Mudbrook St. NW, around 12:30 p.m. after another student reported the weapon to school officials. The school resource officer confronted the child and safely secured the firearm without incident.

Police said the student had made threats toward another student and the school resource officer. No injuries were reported, and officials confirmed all students and staff followed established safety protocols and remained safe during the incident.

The case remains under investigation.
