Authorities are investigating a shooting that left a 23-year-old man wounded in Canton’s northeast side late Tuesday night.

The Stark County Sheriff’s Office said the incident occurred shortly after 9 p.m. on May 14 near the intersection of Nelson Place and Sylvan Court, just southwest of Nimisilla Park.

According to investigators, the victim initially drove himself to a home on 37th Street in Plain Township following the shooting. A family member was preparing to take him to the hospital when deputies arrived and called for an ambulance.

Deputies later determined the shooting had taken place within Canton city limits. Canton police are now handling the investigation.

The man was first treated at Cleveland Clinic Mercy Hospital around 12:45 a.m. Wednesday but left the facility against medical advice. His mother then transported him to Cleveland Clinic Akron General for further treatment.

Police have not identified any suspects, and it remains unclear who fired the shots.
