An alleged parking lot assault reported by a woman outside a Massillon store has been determined to be unfounded, according to the Massillon Police Department.

Officers took a report from the woman around 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 17. She initially told police she was followed by two men inside the store. Upon exiting, she claimed one of the men approached her and grabbed her as she attempted to enter her vehicle. According to her report, a bystander intervened, pushing the alleged assailant away.

The woman then found a police officer in the parking lot and reported the incident. However, an investigation revealed that no suspect approached the woman or her vehicle, and she was not touched. Additionally, no “Good Samaritan” came to her aid as she had claimed, authorities said.

Massillon Police emphasized the importance of situational awareness but cautioned residents against believing everything they see on social media, where such incidents can often be exaggerated or fabricated.

Police reminded the public to verify information and report any suspicious activity directly to law enforcement.
