A turkey fryer is being blamed for a garage fire in the village of Minerva late Thursday morning, according to Fire Chief Aaron Stoller of the Sandy Creek Joint Fire District.

The fire department responded to the 9000 block of W. Southview Drive at approximately 11:15 a.m. for a reported garage fire. Upon arrival, firefighters discovered that a turkey fryer had ignited the blaze. The residents had moved the fryer and its propane tank outside the garage prior to the fire department’s arrival.

Crews extinguished the fire within five minutes and conducted a thorough check of the area, finding no extension of the flames. The garage sustained significant smoke and heat damage, with losses estimated at over $5,000.

The occupants were home at the time of the fire, but no injuries were reported among residents or firefighters. Great Trail Fire District was notified to assist but was canceled before arriving at the scene.
