Local authorities and the Canton Local School District are investigating a fight that occurred Monday in a bathroom at Canton South High School, an incident that was captured on video and widely shared on social media.

The video shows approximately a dozen students gathered around another student.

The group is seen interrogating the victim, accusing him of “snitching.” The victim denies the accusation.

The situation escalated as the students removed the victim’s sweatshirt and shoes.

One student attempted to take off the victim’s shirt, but another intervened to stop that.

Another student could be heard saying “beat his ass before I do.” Moments later, one student lightly slapped the victim before another stepped forward and began punching the victim in the face.

Canton Local Superintendent Brett Yeagley condemned the incident and assured the community that the district is taking action.

“We are aware of the disturbing incident that took place in the restroom at Canton South High School on November 25th, 2024, and has since been shared on social media,” Yeagley said in a statement. “Our administration started investigating immediately after being notified, and is continuing to review all evidence from the incident. The district will be issuing school discipline consistent with our school board policies. Additionally, we are fully cooperating with an investigation with the Stark County Sheriff’s Office. We take this matter very seriously and are working to make sure everyone involved is held accountable.”

The Stark County Sheriff’s Office is actively investigating the case, though no additional details about potential charges have been released.

The district has not specified what disciplinary measures will be taken but reiterated its commitment to student safety and accountability.
