A 41-year-old Orrville-area man was killed, and a 45-year-old Massillon man was seriously injured Tuesday afternoon when their pickup truck collided with a semi-truck on U.S. Route 30 west of Dalton, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

The fatal accident occurred around 2:38 p.m. in Sugar Creek Township, Wayne County, when a 1999 Toyota Tacoma, driven by Robert Burr of Massillon, rear-ended a 2024 International semi-truck as it was attempting to make a left turn onto Kohler Road. The semi, operated by a 34-year-old New Jersey man, was towing a 2022 Hyundai van-trailer and had slowed in the eastbound lane to turn when the pickup struck it from behind, the patrol said.

Adam Sartin, a passenger in the Tacoma and a recent Wooster resident, suffered fatal injuries in the crash. Emergency responders used equipment to free Burr from the pickup, and he was subsequently airlifted to Cleveland Clinic Akron General with serious injuries.

Neither Sartin nor Burr was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the collision, according to investigators. The semi-truck driver was unharmed.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol continues to investigate the cause of the crash.
