Stark County voters have elected a new sheriff, unseating longtime Sheriff George Maier in favor of retired lieutenant Eric Weisburn, according to unofficial election results.
Weisburn narrowly defeated Maier, capturing 90,569 votes, or 51.83%, to Maier’s 84,181 votes, or 48.17%. This marks the end of Maier’s tenure as sheriff, a position he held since 2013.
Weisburn, 61, is a familiar face within the sheriff’s office. He served over 30 years with the Stark County Sheriff’s Office before retiring as a lieutenant two years ago. His extensive experience within the department was a focal point of his campaign, promising voters a seasoned hand at the helm.
Weisburn will officially take office in 2025, with a starting salary of $127,725, bringing fresh leadership to one of the county’s most critical public safety roles. The Stark County Board of Elections is expected to certify the election results on Nov. 20.
