The Minerva boys and girls cross-country teams both claimed victory at the Eastern Buckeye Conference (EBC) Championship, with the boys’ team winning the title for the first time in 20 years. It marks the first boys’ EBC title since 2004, a significant achievement for the program.

Boys’ Race

Minerva’s boys’ team, led by senior Grasyn Rettig, placed five runners in the top 11 to secure the championship. Rettig finished second overall with a time of 16:17.1, trailing only Carrollton’s Ricky Sibila II, who claimed the individual title with a time of 16:00.5. Minerva’s depth shined through with Rowen Hoffee (5th, 17:00.0), Ryan Cassidy (6th, 17:02.2), Owen Yoder (8th, 17:09.0), and freshman Tyson Fetty (11th, 17:28.3) rounding out the top performances for the Lions. Their strong collective effort gave them a team score of 32 points.

Marlington’s Luke Ryan also delivered a strong performance, finishing seventh with a time of 17:06.0, while teammate Jase Brock finished ninth at 17:15.0. Carrollton’s depth included a solid showing from Carter Ash, who finished 23rd with a time of 18:42.5, helping Carrollton secure a competitive team finish.

Girls’ Race

On the girls’ side, Minerva was dominant, finishing with five runners in the top seven to claim the team title. Senior Katie Ison led the charge for the Lions, finishing second with a time of 19:19.5, just behind Marlington’s Irelyn Johnson, who won the race with a time of 18:53.9. Ison was closely followed by her teammates Makenzie Beavers (3rd, 19:19.7), Tateum Richard (4th, 19:30.4), Hannah Ison (5th, 19:48.4), and Gabby Lupshu (7th, 19:58.0).

Marlington’s Irelyn Johnson’s standout performance was followed by solid efforts from Brin Boyce (12th, 20:47.0), Jordynn Martz (13th, 20:57.3), and Brynne Reese (16th, 21:16.2), which helped Marlington to a second-place team finish.

Carrollton’s top finisher was Kylie Ujcich, who placed 10th with a time of 20:17.8, followed by Brin Boyce (23rd, 22:47.8).
