Jury selection has resumed in the retrial of Robert Moore, who is accused of killing Glenna Jean White in 2009, after repeated delays in the case.
White, a teenager at the time of her disappearance, has never been found, but prosecutors believe the evidence points to Moore, 54, as her killer. The current proceedings, which began Monday in Mahoning County, mark the latest attempt to resolve the cold case.
The case dates back to 2009 when White vanished after allegedly being at Moore’s house in Alliance. Prosecutors say she left with Moore that night and was never seen again. Despite no body being recovered, they must prove not only that White is dead, but also that Moore is responsible for her death.
The trial has faced several setbacks. In May 2022, the first trial ended with Moore being acquitted of aggravated murder, but the jury was deadlocked on a lesser murder charge. Another attempt to try the case in April 2024 resulted in a mistrial due to a family emergency involving a defense attorney. A third mistrial occurred in July 2024 after incidents of juror misconduct were reported.
Moore has been in custody since December 2021. Jury selection for the current trial began Monday but was paused at 2 p.m., with plans to resume Tuesday morning.
If convicted of murder, Moore faces a potential sentence of 25 years to life in prison.
