Two boys, ages 9 and 11, were detained by Akron Police Tuesday evening after an investigation into multiple vehicles being damaged on Interstate 76 West.

Officers responded to the 27th Street bridge just after 6:00 p.m. after receiving reports that several vehicles had been damaged by rocks thrown from the bridge onto the highway below.

Police were able to locate and identify the juveniles responsible for the incident. They were later released into the custody of their parents or guardians, and the case has been referred to the Summit County Juvenile Court for further review.

At least nine vehicles sustained damage, including broken windshields, as a result of the reckless actions.

One motorist, a 44-year-old man, suffered an eye injury caused by shattered glass. Emergency medical services were called to the scene, and the victim was treated for what appeared to be a minor injury, authorities said.

The investigation remains ongoing.
